Texas House Bill 1815 was approved by the Senate and goes to the Governor's desk (he is expected to sign). HB1815, by McCallen Sen. Juan Hinojosa (D) and Lubbock Rep. Carl Isett (R) clarifies once and for all that it is legal to carry a handgun with you in your vehicle for personal protection without a concealed handgun license (provided you are otherwise legally eligible to possess the firearm).
Today, Gov. Perry also signed into law House Bill 991 which keeps the names and other personal information of Concealed Handgun License (CHL) holders confidential. Only law enforcement agencies will have access to the information.
In other gun news, a couple of young Idaho brothers exercise their little-known right to openly carry loaded firearms in public. Apparently, this is not legal in Texas, so don't strap on the six-shooter and go strolling down Congress just yet.

I feel that a great injustice has been bestowed upon myself as well as the community by the vary person and/or persons responsibly for their neglegance and lack of knowledge in the Texas law. I hope this letter reaches someone who will help me get the message out there that there are law abiding citizens who are wrongfully being persicuted and punished for fallowing the vary laws that I/we as American citizens pay taxes to inforce and protect ourselfs, our family and loved ones, and our fellow nieghbors. please take a moment to respond to my grievance in direct me in the direction to which this issue can be resolved. Thank you vary much, kenneth beck, 2nd. amendment for life!!!

Does this change the law as it pertains to "travelling"? I've been through Texas many times on my motorcycle, and have called the Department of Justice to find out how to legally transport an unloaded handgun.
I was told that it would be legal for me to have an unloaded handgun in my motorcycle bag if I was "traveling," which meant traveling through two counties in the same day.
I just thought that was weird.
